What the job offers

No college degree required

A high school diploma or GED is the education requirement.

Successful candidates who aren't yet Ohio-certified attend the Ohio Police Officer Training Academy.

Who can apply

These are the City's minimum qualifications. The full list is in the City's Careers in Law Enforcement page.

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • At least 21 and not yet 35 at the time of appointment, as set by Ohio law and the City's Civil Service rules. Prior Ohio police pension service is deducted from age.
  • Meet the Whitehall Division of Police Hiring Standards before appointment.
  • Complete every step of the City's selection process.

What happens next

  1. Apply through the City to take the Police Officer Entrance Exam.
  2. Take the exam. Top candidates are invited to interviews.
  3. Polygraph and background check.
  4. Conditional offer, then physical and psychological exams.
  5. Your start date, or your start date at the Ohio Police Officer Training Academy.
